Completely homemade tacos

Tacos
Tacos are one of the most delicious dishes you can make. And they are easy to make too. You just buy all the ingredients and throw them all together.
But what if you would not buy the tortillas, the seasoning and all of the other stuff that makes it so incredibly easy to make tacos or any mexican dish for that matter? What if you would only buy the bare essentials and make everything else yourself?
You know it is much more fun to make dishes from scratch, especially exotic food. I could not imagine buying already pre-made chinese, indian or mexican food. If you really want to enjoy it, you have to make it out of the bare essentials.
Today I dare you, try to make tacos from scratch. And I mean everything, only buy the bare essentials. You can find the recipes on this page about tacos. Buy flour and olive oil and make your own tortillas. Make your own taco seasoning from only the basic spices. Buy fresh meat and vegetables and make tacos. You would be surprised how much better they will taste if you make everything yourself. And they won't just taste better, they will be healthier too.
Do not worry about how complicated making tacos from scratch could be. It is actually pretty simple. Why shouldn't it be, people used to make them for centuries without any supermarket to provide the already made tortillas, seasonings or even complete taco fillings.
If you try this challenge, write your experiences and your success in between the comments, I'll appreciate the feedback. Good luck and have fun cooking.

Green Tea, The Best Tea You Can Make

I admit it, green tea does not fall into the category of new and exiting beverages anymore, but it's still worth mentioning. It has proven to be very healthy. Actually, out of all known food and drinks, green tea has been reported to have the most health benefits. You can treat just about anything, from nausea, insomnia, headaches and even depression. Not to mention it has a taste that can't be beat.
You have to be careful when making green tea.
Producing the perfect cup of green tea is a tricky process. If not handled properly, the same parts that provide health benefits can ruin the flavor, making the tea taste bad. It's very important not to overbrew green tea.

To brew a perfect cup of tea, you don't need much:

  • 1 liter water
  • 25 ml green tea
  • 5 ml honey
  • 1 lemon

Boil the water and let it cool for five minutes.  Pour half of the water over the green tea leaves into the pot. Let the first brew steep for about a minute, then pour it away.
Let the second brew steep for three minutes, then pour it through a filter into a thermos. Add a few drops of lemon juice, add the honey, and shake well.

Shrimp Toast

Shrimp toast is a Chinese dish, which is an excellent appetizer or just a snack when you feel hungry. I tried this recipe a while ago and was very satisfied with the results.

To make this delicious treat, you will need the following:

  • 1 pound cooked shrimp
  • teaspoon fresh ginger root
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons oyster sauce
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 12 slices day old bread, crusts removed
  • 1 quart canola oil
First you have to mix the shrimp with the ginger, salt, cornstarch, oyster sauce and eggs in a bowl.
Arrange the slices of bread on a baking sheet and spread the shrimp mixture over each slice of bread. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes. Heat the oil to 185 °C. You can use a wok or just a deep fryer to do that.
Drop the bread carefully into the hot oil with the shrimps facing down and fry until it's golden brown. Now just remove the shrimp toast from the oil, drain it on paper towels and serve.
